One Pound Baby Born At 23 Weeks Was Able To Go Home

A little baby girl was born at only 23 weeks and only weighed one pound. She was able to leave the hospital and go home with her family.

VIA What To Expect

Sadie Cratchley went into labor at 23 weeks. She immediately rushed to the hospital and the doctors tried to slow down her contractions, or to stop them altogether. No matter what the staff did they could not stop Sadie’s contractions and she was indeed going into labor. She was already dilated to 4 cm. This baby was trying to come out.  The doctors tried to brace Sadie for what was going to happen and told her to assume the worst. Her daughter was only given a one percent chance of survival due to how early her little daughter was and she was nowhere near ready to come out into the world.

Although Sadie knew that her daughter’s chances were not high, she refused to give up hope. Sadie and her husband Mark refused to give up on their daughter and told the doctors to fight for their daughter as best as they possibly could. The doctors told her that if she would have gone into labor one day earlier, 22 weeks and 6 days, that they would not have had the option to even try to save her. They even warned Sadie that her daughter would probably even die during labor. When her daughter, Kaci-Rose, was born she weight only 1 lb 2 ounces. Kaci-Rose only weighed half as much as a bag of sugar.  She was small, but she was alive.

VIA Daily Mail

Kaci-Rose spent the first 8 months of her life in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit where she had to receive round the clock care. After 8 months she has defied all odds. She was only given a one percent chance of survival, but now she is 8 months old! Kaci-Rose is not yet like a normal girl her age. She still only weighs 8 lbs, which is only a little bit bigger than the average newborn baby. Kaci-Rose still needs an oxygen tube to help her breathe. The doctors told her  that she would probably be deaf and blind, but Sadie said that her daughter can see and hear some things. The doctors also predict that Kaci-Rose has Cerebral Palsy, but it is too early to tell.
